Property Grouping in families

Property Grouping in families

We need a better way to essentially "select" one parameter out of several. Currently you have to perform some extensive and not so clean magic to make more than 2 yes/no parameter's where you only want 1 active. There is also the "Family Type" parameter but that has several issues and ultimately isn't always a good option. In addition, I've found newer versions have issues with showing options in a project from that family type even if it's not shared...

My solution is "Grouped" parameters. In theory this gives you a couple benefits.

- If grouping items of the same type (Number, Yes/no, length etc) you could have an option to either show them as radial options (allowing you to only choose 1, OR to show them in a dropdown. This would all relate to one item. In the case of family types, you would create parameters with each of the types you would want, then group them, the group would have 1 parent option that is actually applied to labels and will only show the options that you added in the group. In addition it allows for a nice way to Change their name while still retaining any company naming schemes for families and types (this would be displayed to users as a dropdown or radial as well).

- If grouping multiple family types, then each of them could retain their singularity but could be referenced individually or as a group in a formula and are collapsible in the browser. For example If all these things are true, then.... Instead of having to write a long formula. In addition these parameters can also be marked as a reference and hidden in projects. Both way's would function the same but one way allows users in a project to edit the variables, and one does not.

- You could group all formulas in one group and have it hidden in projects.

- You could group "in house Parameters" that you don't want users to see or edit but want in the family.

This would make nested families or choices significantly easier. It would also allow for linking to nested families, if say a nested family has a group of options, regardless of if it's a family type) then the parent view can link the group and thus bring those options forward.
