Pointcloud Auto-Align

Pointcloud Auto-Align

Our company leans on Point Cloud scans for modeling existing conditions. Often we find that we will repeat scans of areas years later and have to manually align the scan to the prior scan each time. It would be great if Revit offered a Point Cloud Auto-Align feature where Point Clouds align when similar in form.

While is see the general intent behind this, i don't think it would be useful for use inside Revit.

Pointclouds should not really be moved inside Revit. Ideally they are georeferenced and automatically import at the right coordinates.
And even if they are using local coordinates you should just place the internal coordinates of the pointcloud at the same postion (when converting from e57 etc. to rcp/rcs inside recap).

You can open the original pointcloud in recap, load the new pointcloud and align it to the old one (using ICP) and then remove the old pointcloud. Now it should be at the same positon on import in revit.

Ideally you have to align it using ReCap Pro, but I think ReCap Pro doesn't align existing RCP or RCS files.
