Very simple. When you link a drawing by default it is locked. But when you bring in a point cloud it is unlocked, which is a very dangerous. Make it default to locked.
Also I would find it very useful if there was a symbol for the origin of the point cloud. That way it could be very easy to determine if a pontcloud has moved or how to align with a co-ordinate system.
