There is this brilliant "isolate this in 3d"-tool (shortcut BX). This leaves you with a cropped 3d view to fit the object or objects in question. What this idea proposes would be not to end up with a 3d view but with a floor plan or an elevation view that can instantly be annotated in. So far even appropriate shortcuts like BP or BE are not assigned to anything else yet.
