Pipe Type System Defaults and Insulation

Pipe Type System Defaults and Insulation

I would like to see a couple more options added to the Pipe Type routing preferences. I think it would be good to have defaults for Insulation types and thickness based on a specified pipe size range (see image below). The insulation will then get added to the pipe automatically and adjust based on pipe size.

Also, a section for selecting what systems this pipe type defaults too. If you would have, for example, Chilled Water Supply and Chilled Water Return as the only defaults for that pipe type, those would be the only 2 systems you have to choose from in the properties when modeling pipe. This would make it easier for the User to make sure they are using the right Pipe Type for that system.

Below is an image showing the additions that I think would be helpful.

Wonderful idea!  Fully support.

Yes, this would remove HOURS of tedious work. I have yet to come across a project where pipe size and system do not influence the insulation thickness.

It would be nice to have the ability to associated certain pipe types to individual systems.  Right now, when you select a piping system you can select any pipe type that is in the project.  This is not the case in real life.  Certain pipe types can't be used on certain systems.  To eliminate this problem, it would be great that when a certain piping system is selected, only the pipes that can be used in that system are available to chose from.

Great idea. As long, there can be added more than one system to a pipe series.

Egg. Stainless steel pipes can be used for all the Domestic water system types in a project.

And don´t lock this to only one system classification please.

This should be user optional.

I had a thread on this very topic a few years ago and to this point haven't found a way to achieve this.  I wonder if this can be manipulated in the Revit API.

User @dtiemeyer requests that he would like to even include the ability to set the active workset based on Pipe System chosen, as well.
