Non-rectangular Scope Box

We have non-rectangular crop regions.  Can we please have non-rectangular scope boxes so we don't have to copy/paste the non-rectangular crop region to 30 views.......

@Scott_D_ Given that some sort of CAD software is required to pre-process any cad file linked into Revit or to enter layer descriptions for any dwg coming out of Revit, this is hardly a secret.

10 years later and we still dont have this, what a joke of a company autodesk is. Its actually insane that every time you google something that should have been in Revit from day one, it turns out it still isnt.

I would be so embarrased to tell people I work for autodesk.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones @harlan_brumm @Anyone at Autodesk?...  Could we perhaps get some feedback on this idea?  In the style of the Revit for Mac and the Revit Backwards Compatibility FAQs https://portal.productboard.com/fgzms7e5w5rfaulmsvksa6pw/tabs/51-faqs, could we perhaps get some info?   If it is simply not going to be done (for what reason, I cannot fathom), then please let us know why and put us out of our misery.

Scope Boxes are extremely useful for controlling views, grids, levels, and model extents in Revit. However, their current functionality is limited and could be significantly improved to better support real-world project conditions.

I would like to suggest the following enhancements:

1️⃣ Support for Multiple Scope Box Shapes

Currently, Scope Boxes can only be created as rectangular prisisms. In many projects — especially complex buildings, irregular floor plates, or phased construction zones — rectangular shapes are not always practical.

It would be highly beneficial to allow:

Polygonal scope boxes

Custom sketch-based shapes (similar to floors or regions)

L-shaped or irregular boundaries

This would provide better control over view extents and reduce the need for workarounds such as multiple overlapping scope boxes.

2️⃣ Enable Snapping to Model Geometry

At the moment, Scope Boxes do not properly snap to:

Grids

Structural elements

Walls

Reference planes

Other geometry

Enabling full snapping functionality would:

Improve precision

Reduce manual adjustments

Increase modeling efficiency

Improve coordination across disciplines

Scope Boxes are coordination tools — they should align precisely with the model geometry they control.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones, please merge this idea with one or both of the above ideas.

My idea is to make the scoop box more flexible or add a new tool (for example, “ScopeForm”) similar to the “extrude” tool. It would sometimes be very convenient to make the scope box not strictly rectangular but in the shape you need, so that, for example, you can cut off the elements you don't need inside the building and leave only the external structures, or make an L-shaped shape.

This would be useful when a building or room is not rectangular in shape, but you need to show it in a single view without any unnecessary details and without using complex filters.

@Ric_Weber that request was made in 2016, and my search did not find it. Thank you for reminding me about it.

I don't claim to be the author of this idea, but as a specialist, it would sometimes be very helpful to me.
This feature is still not available, which means it wasn't very popular 10 years ago, perhaps due to the presence of more important requests.

Now I see that it's time to renew the request and see how many votes this idea will get now.
