MEP Flow Visualization in Revit and Navisworks

MEP Flow Visualization in Revit and Navisworks

Dear Autodesk Team,

I am an MEP BIM Modeler working with Autodesk Revit for plumbing, drainage, HVAC, and fire fighting systems. I would like to suggest a feature that could significantly improve system understanding and BIM presentations.

Idea: MEP Flow Visualization

Currently in Revit, we can model complete MEP systems such as drainage pipes, water supply lines, HVAC ducts, and fire fighting networks. However, it would be very useful if Revit could also visualize the actual flow inside these systems.

For example:

1. Drainage System

Water flow visualization inside pipes according to the pipe slope.

2. Water Supply System

Animated water flow direction inside supply pipes to help understand system behavior.

3. HVAC Duct System

Airflow visualization inside ducts using moving arrows or particles.

4. Fire Fighting System

Sprinkler water spray or water flow visualization for fire fighting systems.

Integration with Navisworks

In many BIM workflows, MEP models created in Autodesk Revit are exported to Autodesk Navisworks for coordination, review, and presentations.

It would be very beneficial if this MEP Flow Visualization could also work after exporting the model to Navisworks.

This would allow teams to:

  • Visualize water flow in drainage systems

  • Show airflow direction in HVAC ducts

  • Demonstrate fire fighting water flow and sprinkler operation

  • Use flow animations for client presentations and training

This feature could also work together with Navisworks Timeliner to simulate system flow over time.

Benefits

  • Better understanding of MEP systems

  • Improved BIM presentations and coordination meetings

  • Easier training for new engineers and BIM modelers

  • More interactive and intelligent BIM models

This feature would help engineers, BIM professionals, and clients better understand how building systems actually function inside the model.

Thank you for continuously improving Autodesk tools.

Best regards

I completely agree with this suggestion. Adding MEP flow visualization in Revit and Navisworks would be a game-changer for BIM workflows.

Being able to see actual water flow in drainage and supply systems, airflow in ducts, and fire fighting simulations would greatly improve system understanding, coordination, and client presentations.

This feature would make models more interactive and help engineers and stakeholders better visualize how systems function in real scenarios.

Hope Autodesk considers this in future updates!
