When joining a structural column that is fully embedded within the core layer of a multi-layer wall, the area computation for the core material does not update accordingly, even after using the Join Geometry tool—although the volume of the core material does update.
This inconsistency may seem minor at small scale, but in large projects, ignoring these overlapping areas can result in significant errors in quantity takeoffs and consequently, economic miscalculations in procurement.
Enable Revit to dynamically update both volume and area values for materials in multi-layer elements when intersected by other elements—particularly when the core material is partially or entirely replaced by a structural component such as a column.
