Masking Regions for ALL view disciplines

Masking Regions for ALL view disciplines

The masking region tool still seems to only work for the current view's disciplines objects. When working in an MEP view and wanting to mask something, usually it will be architecture/structure related, or at least have components that are A/S related. The masking region fails to be useful in these situations.

Can we have an option for the masking region tool to adjust what discipline it is working for? Or just some way to make it work in all scenarios a bit better.

I ran into this again just testing to see if anything had been fixed in 2019. It hadn't. In my current situation it was related to light fixtures. We would like our light fixtures to mask out the ceiling patterns behind them, but this doesn't work. Our light fixtures are setup to cut out their hosts with a void in the family, but it doesn't happen very often that the MEP model will actually have the ceilings live in them, so the void cut doesn't actually happen.

Why can't a masking region just work for all discipline view designations? This shouldn't even be an issue that needs addressing. Below, the image on the left shows a family with a masking region within it, the right one shows the exact same family but on the electrical view discipline. This is the same for any other "MEP" view discipline, but Architectural, Structural and Coordination all seem to show things fine.
