Issue: Prevent saving back shared position to CAD

Issue: Prevent saving back shared position to CAD

After acquiring shared coordinated from CAD and saving the model, revit show a window asking to save coordinates back to the CAD (even without moving or rotate de CAD after acquiring shared positioning and if the cad was pinned all the time).

That is very annoying, because we can save the model without modifiying the original CAD (DWG), and Revit ask to to so each time we save, after acquiring shared positioning.

If we save changes back to the CAD  drawing, it modify the coordinates and orientation of the CAD wich is not acceptable. If we acquire coordinates from that drawing, we can't not want to modify it. It show ask for that only if we send shared position from revit to a DWG only, and only if the positon/orientation is changed.

After Revit 2018, at least, the each time we save the model, the orientation of the CAD is changed and that is changed each time. So if we use that CAD to acquire shared position for another model, it will get worn cooridnates/orientation.

The only way I found is to remove the Shared Position of the CAD after acquiring it; even delete the CAD reference and linking it again by shared coordinates (but with out acquiring or publishing shared position again).

Hi, @samuelsanf ,

Check out @SteveKStafford 's reply in this forum post. Although the author of the post has a different issue, this may solve the issue you are having.

"When you Save your project Revit will probably prompt you to Save the changes to the DWG file. Choose the bottom answer, Disable Positioning. You don't need Revit to create a User Coordinate System in that file, which is what clicking Save will do."

Hope this helps!

Hi again @@kimberly_fuhrman-jones , I still prefer this and a idea to implement or as Revit Issue to resolve.

I know there ire work around to this, but what I wish is that by default Revit do not try to ruin the DWG and do not get the floating windows asking to save back the CAD (because if I import it to acquire his coordinates, those are right and I don't wan't to make changes to it, that after that change the Revit coordinates again). But some time I want to mantainthe CAD as reference to model existing contitions or entourage elements.

Done! 🙂
