Instance parameters in custom View Titles

Instance parameters in custom View Titles

In my organization we have custom View Titles. MANY custom View Titles because if I want to add View Titles showing North going Up, Down, Left or Right, I will have to set up four individual View Titles. This bloats our template and creates a too-long list of Families to scroll through. In the interests of helping us keep our templates streamlined and efficient, this would be so helpful. It would make so much sense to have just one View Title where rotation or visibility parameters could be manipulated for multiple types of view.

You can do this by setting the north arrow for example as a visability parameter within the title family.

So first draw your arrow or import the arrow sybmol (which would be better) select the arrow and within the properties box you will see a heading Visibile, click this to add a parameter for the arrow selecting instance and categorey Visibility will mean that when you load this into your project the title sheet will have the option to turn off and on your north arrow.

So just repeat for the remaining arrows to give you all the options within one family sheet.

Hope i explained that clearly enough and that it is of some use.

Already done. One family but must be inserted four times into the template to give me North arrows pointing four different ways. Also I had created a combo view title with a different arrow for true north. I have worked around it by keeping the North Up arrow  and the True North view title in the template. The rest are in the library to be loaded on an as-needed basis. Inconvenient.

I see. It would be better to have an automatic Project North and True North when added a veiw into a sheet, similar to the scale or title referance for each veiw.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.

There are many more reasons than just this example to warrant adding the option for instance based variables in the view title. I am using Revit's API to make it so that a Graphic scale can match the viewport's view scale value for instance. This is required by many municipalities and firms. Even through Revit's API I can't access the instance parameters of a view title. The information is all there in the family. Why can't I access it.

Another acceptable option is to be able to make a family's instance parameters dependent on its dependent element's values.

For instance, being able to map the view scale formula from a viewport to an instance parameter in the view title (not just having the value visible in the tag but having it be accessible inside the family itself.

I agree this would be very helpful. We don't currently use north arrows this was but we do use scale bars and would like our title lines to move a certain distance. We currently do this with several title view and it would be simplified greatly for this request.
