It makes no sense that Phase can't be included in a view template.
This must be added, and for those who do not wish to use it, you can simply uncheck it in all view templates. For everyone else, we can create phase-based view templates.
Add the view parameter "Phase" to the list of parameters that can be controlled via a view template. There is no limitied use of the "Phase Filter" parameter in a view template without also being able to control the phase the view is created. There is not issue with adding it, as the parameter can always be checked to not be included if you do not want it controlled by the view template.
Adding this function would increase the ability to standardize settings within the software for the entire AEC community.
Perhaps it would help if all your templates do not need to be changed ever again, but typically view templates are the same regardless of the phase. If you only have Existing and New it's not a big deal but if you have 5-10 diiferent phases then having to adjust a filter or modify a link for example in 10 different view templates would be annoying.
Rather can we have view templates that are independent from eachother. In better words, have the ability to apply mulitple view templates to views. A stacked effect. There are add-ins that do this but by means of applying a template one after the other.
A snip above from my go to add-in Rush Forth Tools.
We have over 25 view templates in each our 11 company standard templates. If we need to work with the phases of construction, this requires multiplying them by four. One setup to show existing conditions, one setup to show temporary conditions, one setup to show demolition, and one setup to show future conditions with components being reused, which must be managed via a parameter since Revit does not account for sustainability. So that's why I'm i need of phase created and phase demolished to be included in view templates. If not need don't add check mark in these and every one can be satisfied ☺️
@Ric_Weber and @mikewp90, please don't create a new idea, because the real perfect idea is to have filters and revit links (and maybe other tabs) separated from the view template option as their own view template definition, so we can combine (and not apply in succession) the desired combination.
This will greatly improve the task to change view templates when we need to add a new filter, or to make sure that all revit links are the same way.
The are a bunch of ideias gathering support already - so please vote for them:
I remeber I made a nice comment on some other idea but can't seem to find it...
Also,I could not find the one about the filters, but there are many asking for view filters on top of view template filters, or to group filters, and all of those could be addressed easier if the filters had their own settings link for the revit links.
Honestly, this just shows again why this forum is such a mess. We keep throwing new “ideas” on top of existing ones, but the real problem is that everything here is scattered, duplicated, and impossible to follow.
Instead of piling up more threads, what’s really needed is a complete reset and a structured way of handling feature requests:
• One place for consolidated ideas (not 20 half-overlapping posts).
• Clear categories for filters, templates, links, etc.
• A way to actually track progress instead of endless voting with no outcome.
Until that happens, all of us are just chasing the same discussions in circles. Honestly, this whole forum should be shut down and restarted with a proper structure, otherwise the best ideas will keep getting buried and Autodesk will never take them seriously
I see no reason at all why Phasing should not be a standardized parameter within the View Template settings. If ever I need to employ more than two phases (the typical existing vs new construction) then I would simply duplicate the View Template and assign each duplicate a name pertaining to the separate phases that are above and beyond the initial two mentioned. This was at least brought up in 2016 if not before. We're talking a full decade ago! Or perhaps it would be better (and maybe someone else has already thought this up) to be able to assign a single View Template to multiple phasing "paths" within the template settings? This way, you would only have one View Template to ever edit but it can be assigned to different views that are intended to have different phasing.
There is generally no need for more than the two default phases. So if you, as a user, don’t want this checkbox in your View Templates, you can simply leave it unchecked.
However, for those of us who do want to control this, we currently have no option.
And since the whole phasing functionality doesn’t really work reliably as it is, some of us actually need this to be locked—so that no one can accidentally modify it.
This would also be yet another simple thing for Autodesk to implement. And as always, it’s possible to come up with scenarios where this would be useful.
