Global Filters

Global Filters

I would like the filter menu to look a little bit like the viability graphics menu. You create the filter and what it is selecting and then apply all desired overrides. Then on each filter there is a view list. This would look like the “Selected views/sheets” menu in the print dialog. Check boxes at the bottom to show views and / or view templates. You then check a box for all of the views / view templates you want this filter to be applied to.

One stop shop if you ever change the filter it gets updated project wide rather than having to go to each view / view template and up date the overrides one by one.

It has been pointed out to me that you may still want individual (as they are now) in addition to global filter options.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.

I believe this idea did not get support because people/users don't understand the value of it.  Enabling FILTERS as OBJECT INSTANCES has the capability of simplifying so much about Revit.  They could eclipse Phase Filters completely.  And enabling them as repeatable and selectable objects allows their values to be reused ACROSS Multiple Views and View Templates.  As the QUANTITY of content in our models grows, the robustness of filtering out unwanted information needs to grow to.  I would even say that as technology moves forward, there will be now shortage of DATA, only a shortage of how to FILTER it.

I love this idea and came to post something very similar. Is there any way to put it back into rotation?

@smharch  It may be possible to "Send" a Filter to multiple Views in one dialogue as you say, but remember that Filters added to each View have an ORDER, and that order dictates which Filter Values get applied in cases of overlapping Scope between Filters.

@smharch @purvigirwin To be clear, Saved Selection Filters already exist, it is the Visibility Override Values associated with the filter that must be entered for each View or View Template.  And as you said @smharch , the ability to assign Filters and Overrides from a central location may also be helpful, though many might argue this is mostly solved by View Templates.
