Floating Scale Bar

I am wondering what it would take to make a scale bar that auto scales when you zoom in and out and is floating in your work space. ideally i would be able to set it at 4' and i would have a constant visual indicator of what 4' is no matter if i zoom out and pan. haven't found anything through looking around online so figure I would throw it out there and see if anyone knows something on it.

isnt this something autodesk could add to revit though? a lot of mobile apps and desktop apps have a scale bar that adjusts as you zoom in, even google maps has one. just a thought
