Feature Request – Enable “Parts” Functionality in Revit LT

Feature Request – Enable “Parts” Functionality in Revit LT

I would like to request the inclusion of the “Parts” functionality in Revit LT.

The Parts command is fundamental for generating accurate quantity takeoffs of finishes that will be demolished and replaced with new ones. It is inconsistent that Revit LT includes project phasing, but does not allow the use of Parts, which is a critical feature for architectural renovation projects.

In recent versions, there are tools that make it easier to create walls as finish elements associated with a host. However, the 2D representation of these elements does not allow for proper simplification. Depending on the drawing scale, the graphical representation becomes compromised and harder to read, which impacts the quality of documentation and communication with clients and contractors.

Additionally, this limitation negatively affects the overall concept and consistency of using Revit as a platform. In the full version of Revit, the workflow behaves in one way, while in Revit LT it behaves differently due to the absence of Parts, creating confusion and fragmentation in training, standards, and project workflows across teams.

Enabling the Parts tool in Revit LT would:

  • improve the accuracy of quantity takeoffs for demolition and new finishes;
  • enhance the clarity of 2D documentation in different scales;
  • make Revit LT more coherent with its own phasing tools, especially for architectural and renovation workflows;
  • align the user experience and learning curve between Revit and Revit LT, reinforcing a consistent BIM methodology.

Thank you for considering this improvement request.

Best regards,

I don't think asking for features in LT will be successful. The whole point of reducing LT capability is, to make you want to subscribe to the full version. If they make LT useful for many people, everyone would use the cheaper LT. Think of LT as a cheaper limited trial version.

I don't know the target audience or actual LT user base. I assume it is more hobbyists? They do have free versions of "Fusion" with more severe limits. It basically is a demo version, and some people are OK with the limitation in return for no or lower cost. But you can't say you want the lower cost, AND the full feature set.

That isn't evil, just how market segmentation works. If they add more useful features to LT, they should increase the price.

That question was already discussed in other "idea" sugestions that clame for more tools for LT, @HVAC-Novice.

Revit LT should never be viewed as a trial. A Trial is a trial (it should be full access for limited time, no questions about it).

REVIT LT was initially deployed as a cheeper version for standalone users that didn't need to use the colaboration amazing and unique tool, that only revit has, to work at the same time in the same model - that is huge and well worth the added price.

The other limitations not related to the above is just, as you say, a way to force us all to a more expensive licence with no need for single user companies. A shame in my book. There a lot of limitations, like filters missing, that just doesn't make any sense and make the software unusable without a complementary full licence.

Even a user that only makes families, cannot make MEP families because connectors are missing. It's just not fair.
