Do not ask to rename level and views

Do not ask to rename level and views

Every time a view based on a level is renamed a popup appears asking "Would you like to rename corresponding level and views?"  While I'm sure there are situations where you might want to do so, in general the answer is NO.  It isn't desired and it is easy to accidentally rename views and levels. There should be a setting to prevent the question from being asked. A user setting might be the easiest, but a project setting would be handy for templates.  There should be a checkbox for "don't ask me again" to help users find that it is a setting when the box pops up as well.

In my opinion it is better to save the basic-views of every building-level and only working in duplicated views.

the name of a duplicated view you can change every time without this pop-up.

because a rename of a basic-view rename all level-names in a section for example

@heinrich.boldt If you only have the default floor plan and ceiling plan that might be a viable work around.  We have 18 view types for floor plans, which even on a basic 2 story building would result in 32 views everyone would have to avoid using and scroll past in the project browser.  It's simpler to say no to the popups, but they still take up time and are an opportunity for error.

I totally agree. There is also famous: "Would you like to attach walls to floor" message, each time I edit the floor layout.

Geez, it gets on my nerves!

Excellent - as you are working on it, perhaps review if you could make it a project option?

ie the popup box is on or off.

We would leave it on initially as we set up the project then turn it off after the levels are named correctly.

Another annoying dialog that needs to go away: "Do you want to keep changes...?" dialog when canceling a Text edit [2017+]

About Rename View/Levels, I would prefer if renaming a view do not alter the level name, nor pop-up a window asking if i want to do it; but at the same time it would be great if separate option on right-click menu is created for rename the level associate with this view.

Great idea Sam! I suggest you submit it as a separate idea as this may get lost in this thread, now the initial idea has been accepted.

Hi Everyone,

In Revit 2019, we have changed the behavior of the automatic rename dialog to provide you with a better experience.  We've added the ability to "Don't show me this again" so that you can decide not to have the dialog display.  Please check out the new functionality and let us know what you think.  We have decided to mark this idea as implemented.  If you have other ideas or thoughts about this functionality, please share them in the comments, on another idea that captures your needs, or submit a new idea.  We want to listen to your feedback.

Thanks,

This is the good news!

Sorry, still haven't got Revit 2019 installed, but I am wondering if this is something that is set up in Revit settings (like in .ini file or similar) or each time when you run Revit you need to check this option again?

@Mirko.Jurcevic It's a setting in Revit.ini: Messages Settings in Revit.ini

@lionel.kai  I think it's great they did it that way.

Thanks!

@Mirko.Jurcevic Yeah. I can't wait for them to add the other dialogs (wall/floor join/attach, etc.)!

I have ticked the "Don't show me this again".... that is fantastic. But now I need to have it asking me the question. How do I switch this back on?

Thanks

@ADT267, while I have not tried 2019 yet, I assume that you can still change the name of the level by going into a section or elevation view, and changing the name by clicking on the level.

Yes, that is correct

To get the prompt to come back after disabling it you need to edit the Revit.ini settings file.

The full explanation is here: http://help-staging.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-0B67F556-4772-4DEC-B465-68C90843FBA4

Specifically, go into the Revit.ini file and change the values back to 0.

0 = (default) Display a confirmation dialog. In the dialog, you can answer Yes or No. If you had earlier selected the option "Do not show me this message again," and now you want the confirmation dialog to display, set the value back to 0.

We are running 2018 and this dialog box isn't showing any longer.  I checked the Revit.ini file and there isn't a "messages" section with those variables to toggle.  Where did the dialog box asking if we wanted to rename the views to match the levels go and how do we get it back?  This is occurring on multiple computers so I don't think it is being governed by the .ini file which is specific to each computer.  None of us remember checking a box to remove this dialog box.

You will see this enhancement starting in r2019, not r2018.
