Disable Import CAD button

Disable Import CAD button

Can we have the option to disable the import CAD button? At least in a project environment? Or hide it, or make it harder to use.

Far to often our users are importing rather than linking and it's usually because they clicked that button first and they don't want to listen to the proper way to do something.

Make it an Revit.ini option.

Import CAD has it's usage...

I'm not sure if you are asking Autodesk to tailor Revit  for you but I have a better IDEA for you ... convince your boss that it would be best if you hire people who know what they are doing

Think twice before going though lol just in case

I wasn't requesting that it be removed, just to simply have the option to disable.

Sure, we could attempt to find employees that we can trust to follow and remember a standard OR we could just have an option to disable the feature.

I'm aware of its "uses", but when Autodesk recommends linking CAD over importing it, I'd like to follow that recommendation and make sure my 400+ users do too.

Also, what do you call ALL of the other options and features within the Revit.ini? To me, that is tailoring Revit for me and my users...

Thanks for the useful comment.

Can I multiply my vote by a factor 1000

Hi all,

It's pretty easy to write an add-in or macro that disables this command.

Check out this post.

Thanks,

Sasha

Wonderful. I will be implementing it, but I feel that this sort of setting/option should be included in a "modern IU" :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Thanks for the link!

dwg Imports happens all the time, even tough the problems that follows are well known to both ADSK and BIM managers. Problem is, that the difference between linking and importing dwg is totaly lost on users.

I would argue that it should not be possible to import a dwg at all. But as a starting point, we need to be able to turn the setting of in .ini for our rollout of settings.
