Different section head for each end of section line

My company standardized on a non-symmetrical section head with the text offset from the centre of the section line. This results in the section head being flipped upside-down or facing the wrong way under certain circumstances in Revit. So far I've worked around this by creating a mirrored version of the section head tag and the section itself, but it is blowing up my project template with double the number of standard sections (a mirrored and non-mirrored version for each section type).

A solution to this would be to allow a different section head tag to be assigned to each end of the section line. The grips to turns heads on/off on each end of the line already exist so that part is already taken care of.

So your sections would need more than the head and tail options is what you're saying?  Because your sections have a head and a tail , but you need the option to have a different head as well?  Am I reading that correctly?  Maybe give us the options of two heads and two possible tails.... Or basically, since heads and tails are really interchangeable, just 3 or 4 end conditions that we can cycle through.

I haven't really run into an issue with the asymmetrical tail as there no text shenanigans to deal with on the tail. Also, my particular use case would never call for the use of two tails but I supposed that someone might so it couldn't hurt.

Have you tried copying the Head family and setting it as a tail instead?

This gives my leader two heads and no tails. I guess it technically works, though my sections effectively having two heads isn't ideal and not the look I am after.

You could also go <none> for the other end.   That was kinda my point of two head options and two tail options...  Really, the whole concept of head and tail is meaningless.  Really it should be similar to the grid lines in that it is just asking if they want a symbol at "end 1" and/or "end 2".  In the case of the sections, it would read, "Symbol end 1", "Symbol end 2", "Symbol option 3", "Symbol option 4".  Then you could just rotate thru all the options on either end.  The first two would be the defaults.

Yes, this is basically it! Make it similar to grid lines, where you can rotate through symbols on both ends.

It's mainly a problem of text placement/alignment why we need this.

We have horizontal and vertical sections in our template to work around the head and tails. But the text is only placed correctly in one orientation.
