Differ between Revit shared, project and family parameters

Differ between Revit shared, project and family parameters

I think that there should be a way to differ between:

- family parameter

- default project parameters

- custom project parameters

- shared project parameters

Maybe with colors, bold/italic, or something customizable.

Often we waste time finding out if something is family parameter, custom project or shared parameter.

Maybe Add prefix to name?

ex: sp for shared parameters, pp project parameters, fm family parameter and so on...

Thanks for a suggestion, we are already doing something like that. For example, every custom parameter must first have our company short prefix.

But you do not have controls over external content, external templates, old stuff and so on.

Also, you need to rename every shared parameter if used in schedule.

With prefixes parameter names get long and "ugly".

and so on

And what about shared parameters used in families?

A shared parameter (e.g. FireRating) loaded in families as internal or external content can result in having duplicate (or more) of the same parameters in schedules.

Only when all used shared parameter files have the same name + ID, it will be correct in the project.

The ID makes it complicated!

Parameters as a whole need an overhaul.

Global (this was just putting lip stick on a pig)

Built-in (is how they should all work)
