Detail Numbering

Detail Numbering

Revit needs an re-numbering drawings feature. If I add or rearrange details on a sheet I have to re number every detail. If I could set settings like "right to left" 'bottom to top" and have it renumber them accordingly that would be amazing. Or at least have a function where you select the drawings in order and it numbers them that way. Would be very handy.

I agree completely. Until it's a native tool, I use the renumbering option in the CADdaddy suite of utilities, which works exactly as you describe: just pick the views -- or doors, grids, or anything numbered -- in the order you want them. Done. it's great.

Hello Zach,

You could also go with the Dynamo / API method.  I have created tools for my team to use with Dynamo and pyRevit to release the latest version.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Thanks @JacobSmall for all your help.

I like your idea!

We could also have an option to "increment all the detail's number after this one" if we try to name a view with a number that already exist, in addition to having the current warning message (something like "There is already a view with this number on the sheet").

So, for example, you already have #1 to #4. You need do add a new #2. Then the #2 that already exist would change for #3, the #3 would change for #4, etc...

You could try my Revit addin: Quick Numbering.
It'll do top to bottom, left to right, etc.

You can grab it here.

Let me know if it helps.

Have a dialogue box in the properties browser of the sheet pop open when clicked, similar to the revision schedule dialogue, and re-order with arrow up/down keys?!  Similar to how you can organize a schedule's parameters.
