Demo Curtain Panels, Doors, & Mullions

It would be very nice to be able to demo elements (panels, doors, mullions) within a curtain wall system. In order to demo a single element inside a curtain wall, you must demo the entire curtain wall system.

In real renovation and demolition projects, it is pretty common to remove or replace only specific parts of a curtain wall — such as individual panels or mullions — rather than demolishing the entire wall. However, Revit currently does not allow users to demolish or phase out individual curtain wall components. The phasing and demolition tools only apply to the entire curtain wall system, not to its sub-elements.
 
Current Workarounds and Limitations
  • Panels can only be swapped for an "Empty System Panel" or another type, but this does not provide true demolition tracking or accurate scheduling for renovation workflows.
  • Mullions cannot be individually demolished or phased; their phasing properties are grayed out, and they inherit the phase of the parent wall only.
  • These workarounds do not reflect real construction processes and complicate documentation and scheduling.
Why This Matters
Realistic renovation modeling requires the ability to:
  • Demolish only selected panels or mullions within a curtain wall.
  • Replace existing panels with new types (e.g., glass to solid, or vice versa) as part of a phased renovation.
  • Accurately schedule and document partial demolition and replacement, reflecting real construction processes.
Suggested Improvement
  • Enable "Phase Created" and "Phase Demolished" parameters for individual curtain wall parts (panels, mullions, grids).
  • Allow users to:
    • Demolish or replace only selected panels or mullions within a curtain wall.
    • Track these changes accurately in schedules and views, reflecting real construction processes.
