Copy paste to and from word, excel, autocad

Is it possible to add the functionnality to copy and paste elements in revit to or from other common softwares (word or excel or autocat or any other software) like in autocad where you can copy a simple excel sheet and paste it to the software or copy an autocad drawing and paste it to word. Why is it so easy in autocad and impossible in revit?

I believe you can insert an external link (URL) in revit files. Copy-paste entire files directly into Revit would mean embedding that information into the revit file. Meaning the revit file size would increase dramatically affecting directly the speed and behaviour of the revit file. You can mimic excel tables in revit by using schedules. I've seen some lynda.com tutorials on that. Quite ingenious, involves creating some text-type parameters and the parameter values are exactly the text you need. For word texts, copy the text from word and insert it in a keynote.

I would certainly not recommend inserting autocad elements into revit, since revit will treat them as individual linework elements (CAD elements), not BIM elements, again slowing down performance dramatically.

I know about file size issue when copying to Revit, to be used with caution and why not with an ole manager showing size of imported element, but that doesn't mean that the program shouldn't also able to export to other programs, that doesn't affect any thing on Revit.

@rakotoarisoa_mI have to admit that exporting multiple schedules to different sheets in a single xls file would be really sweet. I don't think preserving formulas in cells would be possible, and yet the exported data would be already structured in a convenient way and i could apply my own totals / formulas very easy.

This xls option is really important for the procurement and tendering teams, it's a fast way to evaluate total costs for certain phases.
