Copy linked element view template overrides to another view template

A feature that would significantly improve workflow efficiency in Autodesk Revit would be the ability to transfer or reuse linked model and DWG visibility overrides between view templates.

At the moment, setting up linked model and linked DWG overrides can be repetitive and time-consuming. A more flexible workflow could be introduced through two additions:

  • A new paste command for linked DWGs such as “Paste with Overrides”, allowing users to copy linked DWG visibility settings from one view/template to another.
  • A right-click option for linked models called “Apply Overrides from Template”. The proposed workflow could be:
    1. Select the linked model.
    2. Right-click and choose Apply Overrides from Template.
    3. A View Template selection dialog appears.
    4. Select the source template to copy linked model overrides from.

This would provide a much faster and more consistent way to standardize linked file graphics across projects while still maintaining template flexibility. It would also reduce setup time, improve QA consistency, and minimise manual visibility coordination between views and disciplines.

And do not forget... When copying dwgs links between revit models they get turned into dwg imports.

It would be FUNDAMENTAL they are kept as dwg links, otherwise this improvement will be used less than 2% of the time, if ever...

Please, do not forget this point.
