copy and paste with phasing
When using copy and paste, the phasing perimeters should be kept. I am in a view that only shows the demolition phase and want to copy and paste repetitive beams. However, when the beam is pasted, the phasing information is reset to the default new construction phase that is not viable in my current view.
There's a pretty easy way around this issue compared to most other REVIT issues. Just change your phase to the "demolition phase" when you are copying them.
That is what you have to do, but it only works for one pasted object at a time. However, if you relinquish control of the elements without changing the phasing, you cannot re-select the new beams in the current view. If you are using the multiple copy (which I would like to use) you lose control of the last pasted beam and control is given to the next pasted beam. This causes my problem listed in my original post.
What I meant is change the view phase you are working in first instead of going through and changing the phase of the element. Also, from what I have seen, having a phase specifically for demolition gets tricky with trying to show everything correctly; especially when somebody has to link the model and setup the phase mapping. The existing beams should be added under the existing phase and then demoed under the new construction phase. You shouldn't be adding elements to a phase setup for "demolition" or have a phase made specifically for demolition. The demolition should be done in the same phase as your new construction, with the phase filter on "Show Previous + Demo". Doing this should eliminate your problem. Just my 2 cents.
FYI, Having a phase for demolition alone isn't best practice.
Revit is built with demolition tools that do that phasing for you. Demolition of elements is usually done on the new construction phase.
The workflow for you would be to construct the existing building completely for the area of work in an existing phase view. then select the elements you need to demolish and change their demolition parameter to the new construction phase.
Once that's done, switch to your new construction view and use the phase filters to control the demolition and new construction. You'll most likely have a seperate view for each. one demolition and one new construction. they will both be in the new construction phase though.
That is a better work around than I have been doing (just having 2 views open) thank you. However, it dose not solve my original problem of the phasing perimeters not being kept. I was correcting someone eases model to be more accurate so that is why I am moving and copping in other phases.
