Coordination

Coordination

To make coordination easier for Revit users, it would be helpful to add a feature that allows suggestions and markups to be directly linked to model elements such as walls, columns, and floors.

For example, if I have an issue, conflict, or suggestion related to a wall, it would be very beneficial to attach that markup directly to the wall. This would help ensure I do not forget to coordinate that item with others. The markup could remain linked to the element until it is resolved, and then be cleared once the coordination is complete.

Similar to how warnings work in Revit, if a user selects a particular element, the software could show related coordination notes or markups. For example, alongside the existing warning tab, there could also be an option such as “Show related markups / pending coordination items.”

This would make it much easier to track unresolved coordination issues and improve team communication within the model. With the current setup, I often have to print a PDF, share it with someone for coordination, and then wait for that person to return their markups. At that point, it depends on the individual user to keep track of and resolve those items. If they do not, that document can easily get lost with one person and may no longer be available to the rest of the team working on the project.

A feature like this would allow users to rely more on Revit itself for coordination, rather than depending on external software to keep the work organized and well coordinated. It would also ensure that, even if someone leaves the project or the company, their markups and coordination comments remain connected to the Revit model and accessible to the rest of the team.

How about establishing a company wide model text style that you can filter and schedule easily? Some practices even provide a special simple font for these annotations so that when you see one in a finished document, you know instantly that it is not yet finished after all.

My focus is on coordination of areas of conflict in the model not just coordination of items. If someone has flagged a wall or column that needs attention, every team member should know about that, and anybody can pul the details of any conflicts or items require attention etc.
