Contour Label Orientation

Contour Label Orientation

I could not find a Revit Idea that addressed this. I'll delete it if someone finds it.

We need to be able to change the orientation of Contour Labels. I don't want Contour Labels facing up, even when that is the downhill direction. Please allow adjustment.

Thank you for your consideration.

I wish we could control, even if only by override, the aspect (color, thickness, pattern, or just hide) of the split lines and topography regions limit lines.

There isn't even a workarround for that, now.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.

All the contours are appearing upside-down (because its downhill) - not a professional look! OCD persons nightmare!

Please fix the contour label text orientation.

Lately I have been posting a lot of Revit Ideas.  That is because over the many years of working with Revit, there still seems to be the many issues and frustrations that numerous users, myself included, have been experiencing and complaining about, but these just do not seem to get attended to, OR, they take years before we see a few of these be fixed or implemented.  When I started using Revit I used to look forward to the next release of Revit for "What's New in Revit 20xx". Now its like there is really not much to "hype" about when a new version/update gets launched.

Some of these requests/ideas are minor fixes which take years to get resolved.  These "flaws" we experience do impact on efficiency and productivity in an office, as users end up having to resort to manual fixes, workarounds or even 2D fixes.  This, in my opinion is not good.  If Revit provided the tools to accomplish certain tasks correctly and efficiently one would not need to use a workaround, as I feel workarounds are mostly time consuming and tend to sometimes become a "messy" and inefficient alternative.

For example, the contour label text orientation.  A simple fix I feel.  And it has been a annoyance in my office and from discussions with other users when having to label contours.

The contour label text is orientated to the direction of the topography sloping downward.  All well and fine however, it is not quite readable with the rest of the text/tags on the floor/site plan.

There should at least be an option to enable the text to be readable for those who would prefer the text orientation changed, and also maintain current method with the label following the direction of the slope.

See example images of Contour Label orientation.

This is really exciting. I'm looking forward to taking a look at it.

Major backward step in my view ,

In previous versions it followed typical UK survey conventions. IE values always read up the hill. Now Revit aligns it so its right reading to Project North. Currently trying to find a way to revert to old and correct functionality. At least have a toggle to switch between Correct/Survey Convention and right reading convention (although the latter makes the drawing confusing in my book and is problematic working at best)

Site tools are not just for Architects, but also other disciplines who actually work with site data. Can we revert it back via the INI file or whatever?

If not , may I suggest it is incorporated into a future HOTFIX?. I see this 'New Functionality' as bit of a bug.

though this has been implemented it requires some additional features as discussed in this idea

CONTOUR LABEL ORIENTATION & LABEL LINKED MODEL - Autodesk Community

(1) a toggle switch for the label orientation

(2) labeling linked models

This is saying implemented but in Revit 2025 it's still a problem, I still see the text upside down!!

In Revit 2026 it doesn't work. I think that you should allow users to decide about the text orientation of the contour label.
