Since binding essentially makes a separate copy of the elements of the linked model, you may be able to do the following:
Use tab to select the single element you're interested in from a linked model.
Press Ctrl|+C to Copy the element to the clipboard.
Press Ctrl+Shift+V to Paste-in-the-same-place.
This may not work with certain types of family hosting, but I use this all the time to take my Mechanical's RTUs and place them onto my architectural roofs, pads, etc.
The alternative is more convoluted but I believe works in a similar way overall. Use the Copy/Monitor Function to copy elements from a linked model into your current model.
