Autodesk, you need to focus on Revit Optimization

Autodesk, you need to focus on Revit Optimization

Revit team... stop focusing on adding more stuff. Stop focusing on changing where cloud models go for the 10th time.

You all need to focus on optimization. This program is 25+ years old now. Buildings are large. And Revit can't keep up. You will be outpaced by another program, which honestly, I hope happens.

Seems to me Revit is only optimized for a typical residential home. But our discipline focuses on large multistory complexes, high rises, master plans, etc. And this program has taken the fun out of our discipline by not keeping up.

Remember using autocad? Remember how fast we could whip something up? Well that has never been the case with Revit. Ever since I started in this industry, every project NO MATTER HOW ORGANIZED YOUR MODEL IS AND NO MATTER HOW BEEFY YOUR COMPUTER IS, Revit will be sluggish. And I'm not just some idiot that doesn't know the ins and outs of Revit. This happens every time, no matter how well I organize our sets/bldgs.

As an example, here is the usual process that happens...

Click object. wait. make action. wait. hide object. wait. click template. wait. apply template. wait. click group. wait. edit group. wait. finish group. wait.

Please do better. Our buildings are only getting larger and larger and Revit isn't keeping up.

@anasab ,

I would encourage you to join our Revit Preview where you can have direct contact with our developers. They are constantly looking for examples of models with performance issues in order to improve the software. Unless you have a specific example of a feature or enhancement to be added to the software, we will move this thread to the forums for support.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones

Thank you Kimberly. Everyone knows it's not your fault or the hardworking developers that create the program. It's definitely not a specific thing that would fix any of this, but it irks me and I'm sure you guys too that we have these amazing computers with high specs, better CPUs than years ago, better GPUs and software, yet, Revit feels very much in the stone age for typical Type III projects. Even Type V projects.

I know it's a complex BIM program. But so is every other program out there. Video editing software, audio editing software, art software, gaming software. All so complex as well. Yet it's falling behind. I shouldn't have to be strategizing my clicks and actions because I know I'll have to wait if I make the wrong click. If upper management at Autodesk doesn't realize this as an underlying problem, in several years, Revit will no longer be a thing and a shiny new product (looking at you ArchiCAD) will be the forefront of the built environment.

@anasab ,

I hear you! 🙂 Performance is one of our focus strategies for Revit. Here is a Revit Roadmap Productboard link where you can also send additional feedback to our teams.

Hi Kimberly, Archicad is not a shiny new product, edition 2.0 was in launched in 1986...https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Getting-started/Archicad-versions/ta-p/304207

Also have you tried models of 1GB in archicad? I havent and i supect you haven't either.

I'm working in a model with all the links almost past 8 GB in size, in version 2022, yes its slow but 2024 and 2025 are much faster. Keep that in mind please.
