It would be nice to be able to control the active dockable pane in a tab group. Ideally on any valid API context but at least on startup. I have users that use my app that want to dock it with properties palette but still want the properties palette to be the 'primary' tab i.e. show first when loading up, then they can switch to my tab later when they need my application. As far as I can tell this is currently not possible. I could also see an application for switching tabs in an API context as well; i.e. maybe my application runs it's course and then switches the user automatically back to the properties palette as long as it's available.
