Add rooms and spaces into phases and design options
It would be nice if you could have rooms and spaces display a phase, so you dont have to place them as a new object after switching the phase of your plan.
Spaces should also, like rooms, have the option of including them in a design option.
Currently we can not place spaces in the same way as room so have them in different design options.
Design option is great feature and allow export separate gbXML from one model but there is issue with spaces. They can only be placed in the main option. Please fix it.
Design options are used often with our consultants, for a work around, we phase our project for this so we can maintain full loads on our panels and know what the breaker size, etc will need to be if that option is chosen, not really a bug deal, it's chosen and we just combine the phase, but what is a big deal, is that spaces to not work with design options. We use these spaces for calculations here quite often and without these spaces, we cant efficiently perform these calcs, especially as the model is changing architecturally. We use a work around of either a room tag or by using space separation lines, but this is tedious. Can you add the ability for us MEP folks to be able to add and update space names automatically for design options?
Totally agree. Even for architecture rooms should only define the physical boundaries in the model (bound by walls etc) and spaces use of those rooms. EG: If a house has an open living area the room is the living area, spaces define Kitchen, dining, lounge uses within it etc
At present, spaces only see the 'primary' option in any linked models when finding boundaries; creating spaces that are bound by walls, or boundary lines, or whatever in options other than the primary option is not possible.
The request is for a means of associating a space in my model with a specific option in a linked model. Note that designating that option as primary may not be an acceptable work around -
- At present, the projects are frequently on BIM360 so I may not have the rights to modify someone else's model (and it's poor practice, to say the least, to modify other companies models)
- the authors of the linked model may have very good reasons for designating another option as primary
I think one approach to consider would be to add a means to associate a design option in a parent model with design options in a linked model - but that's just one thought.
MEP user here. This is messing up my current project right now. Architects are using design options and I am using spaces based off their rooms to automatically calculate my ventilation air values. As of now I need to cheat it and this is unacceptable.
Thank you for your Idea submission. Here is another Revit Idea on rooms and phases. Feel free to add your vote there, too. We are unable to combine them since the Design Option mention makes your Idea unique.
