Add Family "Flip Control" in 3D and Other Views

Capture.JPG

It would be nice to be able to use the family flip controls in 3D views. Currently they are only accessible in plan views where the element is parallel to the work plane.

It would also be useful if the FLip arrows stay at the centre of the family. sometimes they are located quite a way off once parameters (e.g. width) are changed.

Another option to make this easy to implement might be to add the flip control as an instance yes/no check box in the type. Its a big issue for me with angles and channels when we need to flip the outstanding legs to the other side.

Thanks to everyone who voted for this. Fingers crossed the AutoDesk powers that be can get it implemented!

I would also like the default location/placement line to always be back corner of angle/back face of channel, not the centroid.

The Flip Control (double blue arrow) can only be placed in a Plan View.

It makes more sense for many things (for example Casework) to be able to flip the family while in an Elevation View.

Allow us to place the Flip controls in Elevation Views, too.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones This was previously placed under review by @harlan_brumm , Does this mean it got downgraded? 159 votes on a structural item is a pretty strong vote tally. Sad if it is.

Hi, Sean,

We are in the process of improving and consolidating the Revit Ideas. This is by no means a downgrade...simply part of our cleanup efforts. Rest assured that your Idea and feedback is valuable to our teams, and that your Idea will continue to be reviewed. Hope this helps!

There is already an idea for adding flip controls to 3D views, but I think it could be great to be able to place them within the family for a front elevation, etc. When you are making face based families for what will ultimately get placed on a wall, you must build your component on the front view as if it were the plan view. This is also where you'd like to see the flip controls when you have loaded and placed that component in your project. Currently, you are only able to create the flip controls when you are in the plan view of the family.

Adding the flip controls to any view would be ideal for situations like this and just so that we can show them in the views where they would be most useful.

This one would be great, but I feel while it's being looked at, it should just be added for all view types. I just created an idea, it's similar but different. When creating face based families, if you have something you are hosting to a face like a wall, then your front elevation essentially becomes your "plan" view, we are currently unable to place a Flip Control in the Front Elevation (or any other elevation) to properly allow users to flip these components. It would be great to be able to see and place the flip controls in any view type.

@casquatch Good work! Thank you for creating a new idea! Both are great ideas, and this one may eventually be merged with your new more general idea.

I had a similar Ideas posted 3 1/2 years ago.

Sadly, it didn't get much love. (21 votes)

Hi, @dplumb_BWBR and @casquatch

I can combine all three posts (and their kudos) to boost all three if you like!

I don't see why not. Thanks!

Thanks, Kimberly.

I appreciate you cleaning up the Ideas.

@dplumb_BWBR  You're welcome!

@casquatch Thanks for agreeing to the combination!

I support this idea too.  I also always meet the situation wherein I need to rotate the model in a 3D or  elevation view.  If there's a flip arrow can help me save a lot time.

This is somewhat implemented already:

If a family has flip arrows assigned, you can execute them by selecting the family (in any view mode (plan, elevation 3D) and press "space bar".

If both flip arrows have been assigned it will go through all options (i.e. you will be back to your original orientation after pressing "space bar" 4 times).

Thanks for your reply Jan.
But what I mean is to flip the model, such as switch the top and bottom
side or left and right side in the elevation view of the project file.
Until today, we still can only make it by rotating the model. Using the
'Space Bar' does rotate the model, but it only considers the placement in
Ref.level.
