ACC_Enhance Internal Collaboration: Allow Continuous Linked Model Access Without Mandatory Publishing in ACC

ACC_Enhance Internal Collaboration: Allow Continuous Linked Model Access Without Mandatory Publishing in ACC

Problem:
With the new Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) workflow, publishing is mandatory for linked Revit models to be accessible. This creates difficulties for multidisciplinary firms working on multiple models (ventilation, electrical, plumbing, hydraulics, etc.) within the same company. Moreover, we use ACC internally for all our projects—even those not shared externally. Yet, internal teams cannot access their own linked models without an official publish, which hinders efficient and seamless internal collaboration.

Add an option in the project settings to allow linked models to be continuously accessible to internal teams within the same company, without requiring an official publish. This option could be enabled or disabled as needed. Without the obligation to publish, synchronizing alone would be sufficient for internal teams to access linked models.

_________________________

I second this.

I'd like a much simpler version of what is currently available, there are teams who want all the customization and control and there are teams who just want to link a bunch of models together like they would do on a dumb file server.

It's far too complicated to set up the second arrangement type. Whatever I do requires me to delve into user guides just to understand the process, let alone implement it.

If both the host model and the linked model are in the same ACC project and not bridged in, then this is called "live linking".  All that needs to happen is that the linked model needs to be sync'd and then the host model sync'd and the changes will appear.  So changes will be seen without publishing.  In order to live link, you just need to select the linked model from the "External Resource" list in the Import/Link RVT dialog box.  Then when syncing, the changes will appear automatically without needing to publish.

One person is in their model...  they make changes, they sync to the cloud.

Another person is in their host model... they sync, they see the changes to the linked model.

Sorry, but no, this is no longer the case or will no longer be the case depending on Autodesk’s deployment.

This change became generalized with the latest versions and updates, but its actual activation was rolled out progressively depending on projects, regions, and the servers deployed on ACC.

The behavior where synchronization alone is no longer sufficient to make modifications visible in a linked Revit model within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) corresponds to a change in the version management logic on ACC. It affects all recent versions of Revit using cloud collaboration (BIM 360/ACC) and the Desktop Connector infrastructure.

Synchronize updates the central cloud model (RCW Server) and syncs modifications among collaborators working on the same central file. Synchronization does not automatically push the changes to the Docs/ACC repository accessible through links.

Publish transfers the most recent version of the model from the RCW Server to Autodesk Docs (ACC/BIM 360), which updates the file visible in the cloud folders (and thus accessible to external teams or via ACC links).

As of today, there is no option to restore the previous behavior (where synchronizing was sufficient for all linked Revit users).

This workflow is enforced by version management in the cloud environment to ensure model stability and a clear publication history.

In short, the now mandatory publishing step for dissemination to everyone follows a workflow logic where publishing becomes the act of officially releasing a model version.

After reading the Autodesk help file, I think what we need is a sincronize button option to sinc and update the links at the same time to bring the behaviour back.

Not a force "reload"/"reload from" that takes more time than the normal sinc.

OK, so the way I read that article is that a publish still isn't necessary. However, the user of the host model, does need to hit reload in the manage links or in the project browser to reload the link when they want to see the changes. Still not too bad. A publish is not needed if the models are live linked.
