Text editing issue Revit 17

Hi,

I have been having problems with Revit 17 text editing.

When I highlight text to replace it won't start replacing the text until I move my mouse again. Very frustrating!!!!

I realize this is a bug with the new '17 text editing changes, but is anyone actually working on fixing these stupid problems yet?

Regards,

You might try checking the screen more often.

Wow... that's such helpful comment... Especially if you're working your way through a sheet of redlines.

Look at screen, click in a text note, look at redlines on desk while typing four words. Look back at screen and discover Revit did nothing.

Or, edit a text note, highlight one word, look down at redlines and type a replacement word. Glance back at screen and nothing happened...

What other contemporary text editor does that?! Are we supposed to waste 2-3 character and 5 seconds of time EVERY single time we edit a note, just to make sure it's actually editing the note?!

Welp, complaining here is also a waste of time. Reading all these useless comments is also a waste of time. So, you know there is an issue and you can't glance up after your first keystroke to make sure you are actually doing something? Instead, you waste multiple characters before checking. Hmmm...

I'm not saying this isn't an issue but instead of complaining, how about discussing ways to deal with it until it is fixed. Now, that would be constructive but some people don't appreciate that.

Complaining isn't totally useless. It's a way of communicating there's a problem.

But has anyone found a series of steps or conditions that allow to reproduce the problem reliably? That would help A LOT with filing the bug report 🙂

Like I said, I'm seeing it from time to time but I haven't been able to figure out was triggers it...

A quick scroll of the mouse wheel "fixes" it (by forcing a zoom). Also, hitting the backspace key after highlighting word(s) "fixes" it. It appears to happen more often when highlighting text to edit it and less so when clicking into text to add characters, but I haven't found a consistent trigger either.

It is useless in my book. It gets in the way of the process of problem solving.

This problem only happens if your mouse moves off of the selected text and you start typing.

This is still a problem for 2019 (which I see people still agree in the thread below). I have recorded this in the best way possible to send to my coworker (who was emailing back and forth with some Revit support personnel). I caught it mid-problem. So, you'll see that I've opened the text editor and realized that nothing changes when I'm typing. However, I click backspace to delete a couple of characters and, suddenly, I'm able to type. You can let me know if that problem isn't the same as yours. Thought it may be helpful.

Then you have a different problem. This is a Revit forum.

He's not saying you're dumb, he's pointing out that you said you have the same problem in AutoCAD 2018 in your first post today, which is not Revit. If you have the problem with Revit 2018, then join the club. There is no know fix that I have found. And it's still an issue in Revit 2020.

I don't know where you're at but here at the forum it says AutoCAD in your first post and every time it was quoted after that. I'm not making it up.

Well that’s more concerning than my issue at hand, I literally clicked
“reply” right in that first persons post, sooo I think they need to fix a
LOT of stuff, including this forum!!

I haven't seen that happen in the forum, ever.

Trust me. I've got posts out there with some terrible grammar.
