Structural columns and cutting floors

Hi,

 

I loaded in a structural column family so that I could include the capitals in the model. I replaced my architectural columns with these.

 

When I removed the architectural columns, the boolean cuts I made to the floor disappeared, so I changed the floor to a structural floor and then the column/floor interaction automatically looked like this:

I don't seem to be able to manually cut/join the two structural elements.

 

I eventually have to add thickened slab edges around the columns, as well as around the perimeter of the slab at the bearing walls. 

 

So how do I fix the graphics to appear like the condition with the architectural column:

Make the Medium or Fine Geometry visible in Coarse View in the Family. Then you can Join to Floor in Project.

so it seems like it is accurate that an architectural floor cannot be cut by a structural column?

Is it also correct that I can't cut structural floors with a structural column? it seems to not be working

You need to use Join Geometry, not Cut geometry.  Then switch the join order accordingly.

Looks like it Joins, but in the incorrect order. Switch Join Order.

Is this a better workflow generally for showing slab/structural interactions than splitting the slab into multiple floors at the edge of all the walls which divide them?

Join geometry.  If the slab stops at the walls then switch join order.
