Revit 2017 text in spot elevation symbol does not display

Hi,

I am creating a spot elevation symbol family and the text in the symbol does not display when loaded in the model.

Any ideas why?

thank you

Thank you very much for your help.

I created a new, very simple symbol with no parameters (see attached) and kept the text readable and visible but when I loaded it into my project i couldn't see the text again.

then i created a new project and loaded the new family into it. I found the text far away from the box (see attached new project).

if you could work out why this is happening i would much appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi Jon,

I have got the answer to your problem.

After careful examination of the family template, it would appear that it is a bug from the symnol template.

In order to solve that,

Start with creating a generic annotation,

And then define it as an elevation symbol (Create > Properties > Family category and parameters > choose elevation mark).

This one will work perfectly well!

Cheers,

François

Hi François,

I tried the option you suggested (to start with generic annotation template) and then saved it as a spot elevation symbol (which is what i need) but got the same result - when loaded in the project the text moves out of the box.

i think i am going to leave it for now as it appears it's some kind of template problem.

thank you for your help.

Text entered directly inside a Spot elevation symbol family will not show in 2017 version.  You need to nest a Generic annotation family in the Spot elevation symbol first.  I recommend using label in the generic annotation family in lieu of static text so that you can enter different values for the label for different symbol types.  Check out the attached file.

Thank you for your posting @Anonymous and kudos for all good suggestions, experts!

I also see the glitch in the family (New Family 1.rfa), and when you put a new text in this family, it will work as expected.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers,

Yuri

Hi all;

I've tried to do something and its work correctly!, and agree that we have a bug on the Revit family template itself, so instead of writing text in spot elevation symbol, a nested generic annotation specifies the elevation type were used there.

Thanks

I'm also experiencing this problem, Autodesk is aware that it exists as indicated in the following link:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?caas=caas%2Fsfdcarticles%2Fsfdcarticles%2FRevit-Annotati...

@yurikim when can we expect a fix?

I've managed to get a functioning symbol for the left side, but the same symbol doesn't work when placed on the right.  The different texts end up on top of each other.

A workaround is nice, but a true fix would be better.  Is this also an issue with 2018?

After doing all this workaround I got like this. But it is working after that.Revit Bug.JPG
