Level of Developmet/Level of Detail of Families

Hello Everybody,

I have a problem with the Level of Detail/ Level of Development of my model.

The model is pretty big, it is going to be a port area.

What i have done so far is that i have modelled the terminal area and included placeholders (Generic models) for port equipment and on site buildings.

These generic models have the correct outside measurements but do not yet include any geometric and non geometric detail info.

I have set up the generic models as certain families

Example: Family 1 is administration building

Family 2 Petrol Station

Family 3 container storage

now i have modeled the containers for every storage area (700 Containers per area) within a separate family which generates the problem that when i upload this, the program slows down significantly (the container storage works with nested families, so the family is pretty massive)

My question is, is it possible to set up a family in different LODs, so that i can upload the family in LOD 200, keep defining stuff within the family to reach LOD 300 but still have the chance to display the LOD 200 in the site layout.

The only idea i could come up with, would be to prepare different families for the different levels, upload all of them to the project and keep working with the most simple family views until i have comiled everything and than just change every family to a more detailed type.

If there is any option to make this switch within one family, i would be happy for ideas.

Cheers,

Max
