Door in upgraded existing wall

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to put a door into an existing wall that is being upgraded (additional fire and noise insulation) therefore I have an existing wall covered with a new wall. I'm trying to then put a door in but can't get it to go through two walls. What's the best way to do this?

Thanks!

You can join both walls, that way the door will cut trough both.

That depends on what kind of Cut in in the Famly.  Is it an Opening or a Void Cut?  If VC, you're going to need a Host Wall that is the full depth of the door penetration.  In other words, you need to model your Existing "Infill" Wall separate from the rest of the Existing Wall. This wall will be Demo'd and replaced by a New Construction Wall that is the full depth (thickness) of both the New and Existing Walls. This New Wall will be your Door Host (w/ Void Cut).   Keep in mind too, that even if it's an Opening Cut, the door's geometry still only hosts to, and penetrates though, one of the two joined Walls. I’d recommend the two Wall approach either way.
