Curtain Panels family....how do you access Width and height?

All,
this is an old problem, if in window and door families you have access to the width and height parameters, which allow you to use arrays within the family, which adjust nicely to the element, with curtain panels, these two parameters are...unknown.

this makes it nearly impossible to do any calculation, because the only reference to height and width are the reference planes / lines which define the curtain panel...So you can geometrically align / attach to those, but you do not have any number to wrok with.
This is bad for arrays, because groups do not align / attach very well to geometry, expecially when you use a nested family as elements...

How do you extract these two values numerically, within the curtain panel family?
I understand that because the panel dimensions depends on the host curtain wall parameters these would be read-only, but still, how do you access them within the family?

thank you

regards

gio

These properties or parameters are controlled by the grid layout in your curtain wall and as such are not directly accessible. The panel type name is the only way to identify these parameters in a curtain panel family.

In a curtain wall panel family, you can manually create a height and width parameter. Make both 'Reporting' parameters (check the box under type). Then those parameters can be accessed for formulas, etc. I hope this helps.

You can create any dimension in the family, and to extract that info , use shared parameter ..

so that that shared parameter can be accessed in the project..

IF you want that parameter editable then just use shared parameter ( Type or Instance )

if you just want to know what would be that value then use Reporting ( under instance ).

Cheers!

In addition to what @jaybehr said, make sure the height dimension parameter is associated to the reference planes and not the reference level.
