Component won’t attach to door

Hello I have a component (a door hook) that won’t connect to the back of the door it will only connect just outside of it or to the wall. How can I make it attach and still keep the assigned keynote?

Sounds like the Hook Family is a Work Plane-Based Family.  You can draw a Ref. Plane on the Door Panel and Name it.  Then Edit the Work Plane of the Hook Family to change the Work Plane to that new Named Ref. Plane/Work Plane.  You may also need to Flip Work Plane.

You could also make the Hook Family a Shared Family and nest it into the Door Family.

Post your file here as an Attachment if you want.  That way we can show you exactly what to do.

Because your door is shown as 2d linework on plan view and the hook is trying to host on an actual 3d surface or workplane.  You could do it in 3d but I bet your door panel is closed, and not swing open in 3D, so that the hook will not look right on plan.

The easiest way doing it in the family:

- place the 3d hook in the family to the actual door panel

- place a 2d symbol of the hook on plan where the door panel swing open.

Yeah, @ToanDN makes a good point.  Is this Hook component of yours a Model Family?  If it is, and the door panel geometry is in a closed position is 3D View, as they typically are, then the Hook will be weirdly floating in 3D space.  Not a showstopper, but it would probably be better (and less work) as a Detail Item.

FWIW - Hook as Nested Shared MODEL Family in OOTB Door Family:

Using View Filter approach to hide Hook in 3D View:
