2016 R2 PDF printing issues....

Have been using Adobe Acrobat Pro as my pdf printer for years with no issues.........Now since updating ro R2, having all kinds of issues with pdf's.......

1.  If I've done any editing of anything, the pdf printer just sits there and the progress bar does absolutely nothing.  I am forced to shut down REVIT, Relaunch, reopen Project and start Print reoutine all over again...................Once Pdf pops up for review , the PDF Progress bar consistanly show around 75-80% done, but then nothing..I've waited as long as 15minutes for it to complete.....alas still hangs...........

2. If after completeing one 'print routine in pdf', I try to Immediately start another with different params,  the PDF Progress dialog pops up......then absolutely nothing happens..............have waited as long as 1-hr just to see..nothing...............Have to shut down REVIt, and again relaunch, etc..........

3. Also noticed a new PROCESS runnning now.....Something called "REVIT WORKER.EXE".........wha is this now?????

See attached scrn shot for pdf window...........

Lance, That was true. HOWEVER, I had now problems what so ever printing out 100+ sheet set from 2016 prior to R2...I managed to do a repair to Acrobat Pro, and it worked a little better, BUT...after running the 1st go around on a 33 page pdf print, the process dialogue box took 10 minutes to show as completed pdf, but I could not go right back into the print routine for pdf again..had to reboot Revit. JeffLMoran brought up that he was seeing similar behavior (hang when printing to PDF) with Revit 2015 and irregular crop regions.

The issue in 2016 definitely seems to be specific to installing R2, but I’m not clear if it is also related to irregular crop regions. I’ve not been able to reproduce the behavior on my own system (with Revit 2016 R2).

Have you been able to confirm if the views you are printing contain non-rectangular crop regions?

FYI - I am trying to open the project in 2016 R2, but the upgrade is taking for ever. I will try over the weekend. I will report the results.

Got that bit...  ;o)

I think Lance it just trying to tie down what might be causing the problem so that they can look at it in more detail.  I don't think anyone's saying there isn't a problem.

If I were you I'd drop back to the previous release of 2016 until it's sorted.

I Un-installed Acrobat Pro, Cleaned up system and files relation to Acrobat, re-installed Pro,made sure had all updates, for it, 1st run to print out seems to go okay, however, when I need to rerun it immediately after the print, say I see something in the print that was "off"...it still hangs....eventually processing the pdf, but the 'Processing" dialogue still stays up and shows working,

Download Bluebeam Trial for test...........seems a little better on 1st try.........and subsequent "re-prints" seem to be as fast as 1st.........

DWF printer went off without a hitch..........

Snce BB is 30-day trial, i'll use it's pdf printer for the moment.............at least till the project is finished.then we'll go from there......

I still had the problem in 2016 R2. I've attached a screen shot with the crop highlighted in red.

@JeffLMoran Have you tried the solutions listed in the articles I posted previously?

Lance,

First please call me Jeff. I tried the procedures you had on your link with different success. I first tried to set the Adobe Pdf to the current version and seemed to have little improvement, but I did see that it was set to 1200 dpi. After changing it to 600 dpi it went as fast as expected. Still a little slower than if I had rectangular viewports. I went a step further and created masks in place of irregular vieports and it printed very fast. I also realize that using masks, is I believe more efficient regardless of printing issues, although I haven't expieremnted enough yet to see if that may create other issues such as referencing.

So to sum it up.

- Set pdf to 600 dpi.

- Use masks instead of irregular viewport clips.

These steps worked for both Revit 2015 & 2016 R2.

Thanks

Jeff

I have an update on the RevitWorker.exe process. I've found that this could prevent printing (but would give an error when starting the print).

You can check if there are background processes running (RevitWorker.exe) by clicking the new wheel/gear icon in the bottom right corner of the Revit window:

BackgroundProcesses.png

Can anyone confirm if they are seeing background processes listed when Revit 2016 R2 is hung up printing to PDF?

Jeff, how did you confirm that R2 was installed?

(I have found that if the Revit window is too small, some of the icons on the bottom right are not displayed.)

Do you still have printing issues now you have installed R2?

Hi Keith,

I haven't tested to pdf using the original settings of 1200 dpi which was the main reason it took so long and I find the results to be better. However, it does speed it up even more by changing the irregular viewports to be mask regions and in my opinion, is more efficient.

I would be happy to test using the original settings if you would like. Let me know.

I'm just interested to know if the issues a specific to a particular user / setup as opposed to their being an issue with R2 before I run the upgrade!
