Inventor won't save sheet metal rules

Hi,

I'm working on some sheet metal parts in a project. I added new rules for the typical sheet metal types and sizes we work with and saved it. I finished that part and created a new sheet metal part and the sheet metal rules are nowhere to be found. Can anyone help? Inventor 2015

Hi,

Have you tried making external rules instead ?

Here you can add external rules:

Where did you create your rules then, in the document?

If you use external rules you need to configure the path of the rules:

@bradeneuropeArthur

I don't see that option. I'm also using Professional 2015 not 2018. When I click "iLogic Configuration" I was able to add a directory but I still don't know how to create the external rule. This is where I created the rules within the part itself. I just clicked on "New" and then made my rules and clicked "Save" after each one.

So what I'm getting from this is that the rules are part-specific rather than global

It looks like your talking about the bending rules of sheetmetal as opposed to iLogic rules the guys referred too.

It looks like the sheet metal rule styles are still stored as local styles. If you go back into the part you created the rules  in and check there still there and then hit save in the styles tab on the ribbon. This will then compare local styles(created in part) and ask you if you want to save to All styles.

Be care-full if you hit update the styles in all styles will replace local if they are the same name, possibly undoing the changes you have made.

Purge is also there if you created some test rules and want to clean up the file.

Alternatively you can go straight into the styles editor and add the local rules to all there, right click on the rule name in the style tree and add to style library.

Ok now i understand.

this is not i-logic but sheetmetal rules.

Either the library is readonly and you cannot write to it.

Or you have created a template with a local rule, but you are not using that template.

@A.Acheson That's exactly what I needed to do. Once I went to "Manage" and then "Save Styles" it saved my inputs as a global setting. Thank you!
