Imported components folder within a project

Anonymous
Not applicable

I  have always used the projects folder structure in particular imported components within the project folder. This worked in all previous releases with automatic effect, be it any format imported while in a project the folder was created and the imported files would end up there under a folder entitled by the import. I cannot find a way to select a default for this to occur in all projects with 2018 professional.

If I have missed a very obvious setting I would appreciate any help.

In all previous versions of Inventor the imported components folder was generated as soon as you saved any imported data in the projects folder. Now this isn't the case, I see no options line available for imported components in the projects settings either in OPTION or FOLDER OPTIONS. There is not any default setting to change in the application options box in any sub section.

Task Scheduler enables you to set for one project at a time, where as before this was not set up in TS but inside Inventor and automated imports to  imported components folder in the active project. This is what I am trying to achieve as it was previously. Or again am I missing something terribly simple, as it isn't obvious after 2 hours of fine combing through the inventor setting

I think the exports will be stored in the location of the imported file. So if the step file is is placed in c:\ then the exports are also there.

I am not talking of any Exports.... only imported files NON inventor components into an active project.

Scenario:

1. In a project

2. Receive a stp file from a supplier sitting on the desktop

3. Open file view it and then go to save.

4. Automatically a new folder is created in project folder "imported components"

5. inside this file a new folder is made to the name of the part imported and inside is the part in .ipt or .iam format as saved.

I can move to another project and the same thing will happen in the active project.

This is how it has been for years, how can I get this to happen....

That's also what I mean. The step file is imported and converted (exported) to ipt's in the same directory as the imported file I guess!?

Unfortunately this isn't answering my question.

Consider "Old Versions" folder and how this is automatic in the project folder, I need the same to occur (as it used to) with imported components.

Doesn't anyone recall this?

Appreciate any help to answer this question.

My understanding of your question that You want  the imported file should be restored to a Specific folder in projects when you open a 3rd party data.

There has some change on Converter in 2018 version.  The File location now is not a default folder, it's same with the imported file by default.

You can change it from import dialog box.

If you want here has a setting that can set a default folder for each import,  unfortunately inventor 2018 can not do it any more. if you would like to log a wish list, then please post it to the Inventor  IdeaStation.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/idb-p/v1232/tab/most-recent

Then maybe post back here to ask people to go vote for your idea. Thedevelopment team looks at every idea posted and tracks them based on Kudos.
