Measure Weight tool

Measure Weight tool

I would like to be able to measure weight of parts and subassemblies by choosing them.

Today, if I want to know the combined weight of a couple of things in my assemby, I need to open BOM and use my calculator to add the different masses. If I could just start the measure weight command (could be part of measure command) and click on the things I want to add up. Just as we can do with area.

1) You can supress all irrelevant parts / assemblies if you want to know the combined weight of several components.

2) You can copy the components to a new assembly to find the combined weight.

Hope this helps in the meantime. Voted for your idea!

Absolutely. This is another one of those "I can't beleive they don't have this" issues you run into after transitioning from SolidWorks. In that program, I'd click "measure" and it would show lengths, areas, volumes, and weights in one click. If I clicked on other components as well, it would calculate the sum of their masses.

With Inventor you have to right-click, choose iProperties, go to the Physical tab, and hit "Update". And if you want to inspect multiple components, you have to do the workarounds @Anonymous suggested.

The fact that the measure tool shows "volume" and knows the object's density is even more infuriating. So close, yet so far!

Work around I have been using is creating a model state including only parts I want to weigh. By doing this it requires you to suppress the other parts and removes the mass from the total.
