Find in Browser automatically

Find in Browser automatically

"Find in Browser" is a very useful function, but why do I have to keep applying it for almost every part I click on? This should just happen automatically every time I click on a component, part, body etc.. This is how many other CAD programs function. If you click on a component, you want to be able to see its parts, its relationships, its sketches etc. It's only natural that the browser follows you.

If people don't like this behaviour, they could turn it off. But it at least needs to be an option. Clicking CTRL+B every few seconds really adds up.

Great Idea. Perhaps make it an option to toggle find in browser with CTRL+B

@Robin_Erich That's a good idea.

Many thanks for posting the idea, and tracked as [INVGEN-58972]

Use this also in the part environment to locate features.

I can see this being useful as an option, but if this was always on I would go insane because I don't always want to find the component I selected in the browser and I'll have to scroll back to where I was.

@mat_hijs Yes, allowing users to customise the behaviour is always the best plan.

I'm interested in understanding your workflow though. Why or when would you be scrolling through the browser, then clicking on a part in the model, and not want to go to that part in the browser? If I'm working on the model, I am constantly clicking on "find in browser" (which I have bound to the "`" key). Or if I'm working the browser at a specific point, I'm not then clicking on parts or features in the model.

(I'm also used to working in CAD programs that do this automatically, so I can't say I've ever wished the browser wouldn't follow your movements).

@peter.kapitola I wouldn't say I use a specific workflow where I necessarily need the browser to stay where it was, I guess it's more that I wouldn't like the browser jumping around whenever I click a component. I honestly rarely use the find in browser command because my browser is organized in a way that I know exactly where to find each component. I actually place every component in a specific order and even my constraints will be made in a specific order.

I should probably note that my assemblies are not very complex in the sense that I simply have some kind of grid part and everything is constrained to that easily. (Vertical profiles first, from left to right. Horizontal profiles next, from left to right, bottom to top. Infills next from left to right, bottom to top. etc) I don't "work" in my assembly, I just place my components and check if everything fits correctly.

@Yijiang.Cai Great news! How long until this feature appears? Inventor 2024?

@peter.kapitola,

Now we are investigating on this idea, and will keep you updated when it is available for users for a try. Please stay tuned.

Thanks,

Thank Goodness. This is one of the features I miss most about SolidWorks. Now I'll be able to mate base planes again without having to manually look through the tree for the second plane. It should also be included in the part environment but based on features and surfaces.

@mhall55ULE It should work for surface/solid body & feature in part environment when using the Select Bodies or Select Features priority.

As to the mate constraint, could you have more details about the workflow? Does that mean the second plane will be found in the browser tree when picking it within the mate constraint dialog launching?

Autoscroll should also navigate to an occurrence in a rectangular pattern

@a.kudrzik when changing the selection filter to "Select Part Priority", it should work fine. Could you please have a try? Thanks!

Sorry, I should specify that it refers to operations in part. The rectangular pattern has occurrences and the autoscroll function navigates to the main node of the rectangular pattern, while in my opinion it should navigate to a specific occurrence of the pattern

@a.kudrzik, could you recheck that the browser node can be highlighted when selecting the occurrence and using "find in browser" command in context menu? If it does not work, that would be the same behavior with "AutoScroll". Thank you!

@Yijiang.Cai

The main browser node for the rectangular pattern is highlighted when selecting an occurrence and using the "find in browser" command in the context menu

Filter is selected on: Select Features

when I select via select other specific occurrence nothing is highlighted:

@a.kudrzik thank you! We got the same behavior with "AutoScroll" when clicking  an occurrence using "Select Features" as selection filter.
