This is one of those really handy features from SolidWorks that is noticeable by its absense when you switch over.

Basically, a lot of the time when you're designing something you don't have a precise idea of what the dimensions should be. E.g. you know that it'll be somewhere around 500mm, but you want to play around with the dimension until it looks right. An easy way to do this is by hovering the mouse over the dimension edit box, then using the mouse wheel to increment and decrement the value. This very quickly lets you modify the dimension until it looks right. Currently in Inventor we have to keep entereing values one by one, which takes some time.

I've seem a similar (archived) idea where many people worried that users would get confused because they use the mouse wheel for zoom. But really, the dimension box is a very small area and you only hover your mouse over it when you are interested in changing the dimensions. It's really quite intuitive.

I miss this feature (and so many more) about Solidworks after switching to Inventor. It takes so much more time to change dimensions when I have to manually enter them every single time

@jason.kenyonDKPZX  Right. Inventor is lagging behind a lot in user experience. And they could make some big strides in catching up if they focussed on these little things.

Agree with previous posts, one of the features I miss most when switching from catia to inventor.

How hard can it be to at least add "+/-" buttons to adjust the dimension value?!

With instant sketch geometry update so the edit-confirm-edit-confirm loop is avoided.

Catia lets the user choose size of the increment steps also, very useful.

As a consequence it gets frustrating if I intend by mouse/cursor to mark part of the dimension digits but accidently also include one letter from the units (one m in mm) and overwrite with a new number, ending up with a length in meters.

For example mark dimension 1880mm and type "1" expecting 1881mm but it comes out as 1881m.

Why are the units even editable in sketch mode, I make the general unit setting in Document Settings?

Please make this better Autodesk
