Odd Right Click Behavior

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing an issue with right click context menus?  Sometimes, not all the time, when I right click on a part in the browser the menu comes up and the item the cursor is on gets a left click as the right mouse button lifts...  I'm not sure if I have a mouse issue or an Inventor issue.  I can't make the mouse do that in any other program but it's possible that's because other software pops the menu to the side of the cursor instead of under it.  I have undocked the browser and I use it in a second screen normally.  To record the screencast I dragged it back over the main Inventor window.  I got the right then left click action a couple times and then it acted like it was clicking in the graphics window instead of the browser.  Is undocking the browser a bit buggy?  I'll attach a screencast showing the issue and I'll quickly duck into Call of Duty to see if my gun fires when I raise the scope....

Thanks,

Randy Martens

The right click dragging function in inventor 2016 is hardcoded into a useless feature, and you can't change it to something usefull like, rotating the view.

The solution is to go for Solidworks.

Ummmmmm.... The marking menu is a great millisecond time saver (Which you can turn off by the way...) and never mind that using right click for rotate instead of the context menu would violate basic Windows conventions....  Maybe get a Space Pilot or set one of the buttons on your mouse to F4 for rotate?  I have the back button on the mouse programmed to F4 and a Space Pilot works great for me.  I'll leave it at that, your 7 posts and switch to SolidWorks comment makes your troll status pretty clear...

We went right from 2016 to 2018 here and I am seeing this issue also. Inventor 2018.1.2 build 171. I have seen this behavior since switching. Using the same HP 600553-002 mouse as I was with 2016. What is really dangerous is it registers a left click randomly in the menu depending on whether the right click happened high or low in the browser - INCLUDING DELETE or other bad commands. If I don't see the "flash" of the command being done I could be modifying things unintentionally. I hope Autodesk pushes the fix ASAP. Andy

Hi Andy,

This issue has been addressed in an internal build targeting 2018.2 Update. If you have access to Inventor Beta, a Beta version of the Update is available for testing purpose. Please feel free to sign up if you have not (https://bit.ly/InventorBeta).

Many thanks!

I have this same issue and it's crippling my workflow and wasting lots of time where incorrect commands are being run and the context menu disappears all the time with the right click. We need a fix for this ASAP.

Also, there is no way we will be using a beta in the production environment. We need a properly released Update or HotFix for this to be addressed please.

Matt.

Hi Matt,

I am not suggesting you use Beta software in production. My reply was to inform the users that the issue is being taken seriously and we are making progress. In the meantime, if the right-click behavior bother you so much, you could turn off Marking Menu. Go to View -> User Interface -> uncheck Marking Menu. But, unfortunately, you will lose the ability to use Marking Menu.

Many thanks!

Hi! Yes, the bad behavior has something to do with the Marking Menu. To be precise, the shared component controlling MM menu introduced the regression. If MM is turned off, there should not be an issue. But, you lose access to MM.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Do you if there is a timeline for when the Inventor 2018.2 release is going to be available to the public?  So far within my organization, I am the only one with the problem.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

I cannot comment on the exact release date of 2018.2 Update. It is going through several rounds of validation. A Beta version has been available on the Beta site. The official update will be available soon.

In the meantime, the right-click issue can be mitigated by disabling Marking Menu. Go to View -> User Interface -> uncheck Marking Menu.

I am very sorry for the trouble.

Many thanks!

Hi everyone!

I can confirm that I received the update for Inventor 2018.2 (Build 227) yesterday and so far so good.

I have not experienced any of the previous problems after switching marking menu back on, so I would say this problem is indeed fixed now.

Thanks to the Inventor team for solving this.

Have a nice day!

Hi Jim,

You are more than welcome! The issue should not have existed in the first place.

Many thanks for the confirmation!

Just wanted to leave an updated here and let you guys know that this problem is still valid also in 2022.1 version of Inventor. Just updated from previous year release and noticed that I have this same problem now also. I'm using two different mouses and it is the same problem on both. It does however help if you hold down second mouse button for at least one second. Especially nice when the last command you used was delete!

Hi Juha,

Maybe the issue you are seeing is a different one. It should have been fixed on 2018.2 update and later releases. Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the mouse driver is updated.

Another possibly related option in Win10 is called Text Cursor. Try disabling it and see if it works better.

Many thanks!

Hi Thomas,

I could be wrong but it is possible your issue is different than the original thread. If possible, please share a video showing the defective behavior.

Many thanks!
