Notes from parts in idw

Hi,

Is there a way to have notes from parts show up in the parts idw print? I checked for notes in property fields but didn't see it.... It would be nice
to make part notations (notes) during creation of the parts and assys and have them show up when you create your idw sheets...

Hi Dominiek

You cannot necessarily add a notation to be called for in the .idw however you could always just make your note as a custom iProperty and callout the iproperty in a text annotation, or part list.

Not sure where you were planning on storing them, or the size limit of iProperties and parameters

but it would be quite possible to just make a sub-routine that takes information from in part files and makes it into a general note on an idw sheet.

Or just use a the text annotations like the guy above said.

You mean with iLogic?

Text annotations via custom property is not possible, as the notes has multiple lines of text. Then I thought to put it in the Comments (Summary) property, but that's not accessible in idw, or is it?

Comments (Summary) is accessible, at least in Inventor Pro 2016 it is.

We have 2015. So we'll have to wait till we have the next release 🙂

But we actually can't use Comments, as we use Comments in our parts list.

Just some simple notes that is viewable for colleagues and clients too if necessary. But clients only get a drawing (PDF), and colleagues might only look at the part.

Not a "detailed" answer like I would have hoped and maybe had a chance to offer better suggestions..

There is "Engineering Notes" in part files and the text could simply be copied to annotation text in a drawing.

Why are you using comments already and can you change that process?

There is "design notes" app for Inventor (actually really good.. I used it when it was free but its still only $0.99) http://cadtoolbox.com/design-notes-for-inventor/

Says you can 

• View notes referenced within a drawing or assembly from child files.

I use custom iprops to fill out 8 or so notes on a drawing automatically.. Everything from finish to material to handling notes to pretreatments,etc... A simple ilogic forum creates them from a list of my standard finishes/notes,etc...

Copying is an absolute NO GO (and that's not just for us, but should be for everybody). That's manual work, takes too much time and could give wrong info if you forget to copy it when you have changed the notes in the part/assembly itself.

Comments is used in our partslist to give some simple info. Changing this would mean we would need to change all our standard parts/assemblies/idws and that's just too much work.

But if the notes are accessible with iLogic, we might try something with that.
