Issues with model (freezes, slow downs, crashes)

Hi Autodesk Forum, First off, I'm not an Inventor user however I form part of the IT team at my company (though I'd like to highlight my first role is not IT related as this is outsourced.)

We have a user using Inventor 2019, with a fairly strong computer specification (Windows 10, 32GB RAM, i7-8700 and a Nvidia P1000 all with latest updates).

With a particular Inventor model, one which I assume is on the larger size and level of detail/complication (In terms of the models we create, It is ~700mb parts and assemblies included) the user is experiencing constant slow down, freezes and crashes. I have had a look and selecting individual parts takes around 30-40 seconds and constraints lead to slow downs.

As mentioned this is model specific, other models do not experience these issues. The latest Inventor updates have been installed along with Graphics drivers. This has been an ongoing issue which a fresh OS install, fresh Inventor install did not resolve. It was also recreated on another machine. Hence why I believe it is model specific.

Can someone please point me in the direction or advise on what needs to be done to resolve this issue? Whatever information you need please do ask, I have system info, DxDiag etc available and can show videos of the issue at hand if needed.

Welcome to the forum.

Has the user submitted crash reports?

Was the model imported into Inventor from another program?  (i.e. Solidworks, Creo etc.).

Are there a lot of surface created features? (ergonomic smooth curves etc.)

Are there text features like engraving?

Is there any frame generated parts in the assembly?

Any tube and pipe?

Can you post pics of this model?

Is it possible to post the model?

Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB

Hi Cadmanto,

Thank you for your reply.

The user often finds the program crashes before being able to send crash reports but I am sure they have submitted them previously. They have finished for the day but will be back in tomorrow (04/01/19) so I will double check the answers before coming back to you.

Hi Rob,

I looked up all crashes from  your email domain & don't see anything at all from the last few months. So if they are crashing & have the option to send in a report then please ensure that they add a current email address & send the report. If they don't have the option to send a report in then using Event Viewer to look at the crash may provide some further info.

It's always difficult to debug general questions such as this without seeing the actual model itself though - can it be shared along with some reproducible steps ?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Cadmanto,

Reply from user:

Crash reports: option never given when closes down suddenly. I have submitted some when I get given the option though. (In future I will ensure email is included).

Model isn’t imported from other software but I do copy over designs from previous and work from that as a new model but change sizes etc.

No surface created features.

Don’t know about frame generated parts.

No tube or pipe parts either.

What would be the best method of sharing the model? It is quite a large file size.

Hi! Based on your description on the other similar thread (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/inventor-2019-model-slow-load-and-crashes/td-p/8498476), it could be a dataset-specific corruption. Without seeing the files, I could only guess. You may want to open the top-level assembly in LOD:All Comp Suppressed and then activate LOD:Master. After that, do Rebuild All -> Save All. Does it work better?

Many thanks!
