Inventor assembly files open very slowly when connected to Internet

Hi all,

I have a problem with Inventor Pro 2021 (latest version with full-license) on my new laptop (Asus, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, 32GB ram, SSD, GTX 1660 Ti).

My assembly files are currently taking a very long time to open (up to 12mins) when I am connected to the internet (via wifi or ethernet cable) . However, if I disconnect the internet - they open almost instantly (even while the file is loading).

*Turning off Windows Defender firewall made no difference.

**Each assembly file takes a fixed duration of time to open. (one of my small assembly file always takes 2min - while one of my medium sized assembly file always takes 12mins)

***All files stored locally and I am using Projects.

Please help

I think I might have the same issues, Inventor is just waiting, doing nothing (windows taskmanager's performance graphics) while opening files.

Hi Folks,

Do you have a lot of unused projects or library folders? If you disable MyHome (Go to Tools -> App Options -> General -> uncheck "Show My Home"), does it work faster?

Could you download Process Explorer from Microsoft and see what was happening during the hang?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson

Thanks for looking into this & Sorry for the delayed response.

Do you have a lot of unused projects or library folders? No

If you disable MyHome (Go to Tools -> App Options -> General -> uncheck "Show My Home"), does it work faster? No

Could you download Process Explorer from Microsoft and see what was happening during the hang? I've attached screenshots below!

Hi Steven,

Many thanks for getting back to me! I am sorry I am still clueless. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed. Let me ping @johan.degreef. He encountered a similar issue but he got resolved by changing certain options in Excel. I am not sure if it is related.

Hi Johan,

Was the issue you chimed in earlier resolved?

Thanks again!

I have loads of issues with it loading really slowly if my VPN drops. If you're working from home and your styles/hole tables/templates etc are on a network drive, if your VPN blobs it takes ages to do anything.

@johnsonshiue No my issues are not resolved. Inventor takes long to start and open an assembly. Not 12 minutes, but it first hangs when just starting up inventor. Than it takes 2-3 minutes to open an assembly.

I do have a fairly fast machine , so I thought this must be going much faster

To rule out a licence issue I would try to reset your licence type to a trial and see what that does.

I used the second solution on the below link to change from network to single user licence in the past. I think if you change Inventor to licence type 0 it should launch with the option to start a trial.

Hi @steven4WBSQ and @johan.degreef,

You may want to check a few things.

1) Disable MyHome. Go to Tools -> App Options -> General -> uncheck "Show MyHome on Start."

2) Change the number of most recently opened files to 10 or less.

3) Check Project setting and remove unused Favorite or Library folders.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

No Homeview view enabled

recent document = 5

No extra libraries (or favorites? were are they located)

@arron.craig

Logged in with another test account (30 days trial), no improvement

As a test I disconnected from internet (wired and wifi) and it runs very smootly. So internet connection is causing this. I was switched to 30 days trial too, but could work on my projects (much faster :-)).

Where is your Design-Data stored?:

  • On a shared server.
  • locally on your machine.

Are you all Vault users?

Mines all on my C

No Vault

Edit: seems not the case, only NOT connected at all, speeds up to normal

After testing without internet onnection at all (which dd speed up to normal), I tried also:

wired, but no WIFI & WIFI, but not wired. Seems that the 2nd option (no cable, but WIFI) also speed up things to normal.

So it must be the wired connection.

Hi Johan,

I would suspect the issue is licensing related. For whatever reason, the licensing check takes much longer than usual. Please make sure Autodesk License Service is updated.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk...

Also, there might be system process on your machine trying to block the check. To prove my theory, disable Windows Defender or any system monitoring services for a moment as a test. Does Inventor run faster?

Many thanks!
