Autodesk Software Suddenly Not Activated

Problem:  You launched your Term Autodesk software today and got a screen to activate your software, but it does not work.  You have no way to open and use your software.

Reason:  Autodesk is experiencing technical problems today as they move to migrate to the 2019 versions of your software.  Currently many of the products that are set to migrate, including AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, 3DS MAX, and others are experiencing this problem.  Your Autodesk Account management page may show your product but will show no available assignments for those products.  Seemingly, your software has disappeared.

Work-Around:  I have found a work-around that will let you temporarily launch your software and continue to work until this problem is resolved.

Step 1:  Traverse to the following folder location on your computer:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<ProductKey_ProductVersion>\

You may have multiple product folders.  Your correct product will start with your product key and end with the release year of the problematic software.  Product keys can be found here

Step 2:  Rename the LGS.DATA file to something else (i.e. LGS.DATA.BAK)

Step 3:  Launch your Autodesk software and choose to Start a Trial.

Step 4:  Login with your Autodesk account and use your trial for 30 days if necessary.  Note:  If you have already used your product as a trial previously before activation, then this process will not work for you.

Good Luck!

Accepted solution

This is only a temporary issue while the Autodesk system is upgraded to 2019.  Once the products are working again, you can follow the steps again to put your software back on Term or activate as appropriate.

Oh yeah, it hit us first thing this morning so I had to kick-start my brain into "work-around" mode to get my people up and running as well as all the customers who are going to flood support.  This at least allows them to be productive while Autodesk fixes the backend issue.  If you have network licenses, you can also use this method to point to your local NLM, which is what we did.  Just FYI.

Same here, makes no difference, I keep getting the "Contact your administrator..." window regardless.

I have now lost an entire work day, still waiting for an update from customer support.

Unfortunately the situation has lasted for nearly 24 hours and no work done.

Can we send the bill to Autodesk?

Is there any news related to this problem? I see some users report that it is fixed but we are still having problems with Navisworks Simulate 2018.

I am a developer of add on products in the AutoDesk Developer Network and also have this problem.

I have the following programs installed -

2013 basic - works

2014 Arch - works

2018 basic - does NOT work

2018 Arch - works

2019 basic - does NOT work

So I can get some work done, but it is truly frustrating.

Note -

There is the a message in rust color at the top of the forum "Some customers may experience delays...."

You can also check manage.autodesk.com to see a similar message.

I think of delays in terms of hours, not days.

PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEMS.

my temp solution because I had used my trial up with licensing issues when I first installed, was to break my license by disconnecting my test rig from the internet, it will allow me to use my software for 7 days before the license must be repaired.  This is a pain, because I cant get files to a computer that has no connection to the outside world.

What if you just deny access to Autodesk- respectively License-related sites/IP-adresses through your firewall/router...

instead of completely cutting your workstation from network/internet?

Not really 100% sure how I would do that. I'm working on a VM and sharing my connection through another computer.

Looks like all subscription (not maintenance or legacy) software is affected this way: logging in and out as well as workarounds posted are not working.

Now this is a good reason to abandon Autodesk subscription model.
